Fairy tales? Yeah right!
The only fairytale action anyone needs in their lives is a magic lamp and a genie at your service.
If you are a bit ambitious, throw in a fairy godmother and maybe a prince charming or the fairest princess but I can guarantee you that the latter doesn’t exist.
But when people transform themselves onto Cinderella’s step sisters then you know you’ve got a real problem on your hands.
“Stop sucking me dry like a freaking vampire!”
Those words Tiana uttered was going to change her life.
She knew it and those standing around knew it to. That would explain their open jaws as though Ali Baba had yelled ‘open sesame’.
I am on a fairytale roll here.
Actually, most of them were proud and could not hide the smirk on their faces. But the icing on the cake was Fiona’s face. Looking into a crystal ball would not have prepared her for what her twin sister just said to her, but she had it coming.
The Hughes family looked like a painting you would hang on wall and always offer a silent prayer to have one like that whenever you pass by it. With an older son and twin girls and parents who were very loving, liberal and modern, there was not much wrong you could point out. Except there was one layering which hid something that was slowing suffocating Tiana.
Imagine writing a test and having a lecturer stand behind you looking over your work and giggling every minute. This was the life of Tiana in totality. Fiona was determined to be in charge of both she and her sisters destinies. She would always make it a point to check out any project her sister undertook, criticize it and make ‘better’ version of it.
Tiana had abandoned piano lessons and ballet lessons, quit the drama club with her sister hot on her trails. While her parents felt Tiana was the unfocused twin, she was actually the talented and serious one who knew her capabilities and worked on them. Fiona never really bothered to concentrate on her abilities and was always pushing Tiana away from things she truly enjoyed. That was until Tiana exploded at the finals of a singing competition which Fiona insisted that for her final performance Tiana should include her, Fiona.
You know the feeling when a particular person drains you of all your energy just by his or her presence. They constantly go on and throw comments about things people have done but if you look at them critically, they have nothing to their name.
Well, you cannot keep on letting them suck you dry of your inspiration and passion.
It’s better to let them know that you are improving on your abilities and they can also find theirs and work on it.
It’s time to tell them…EXCUSE YOU!
Have you ever faced an ‘excuse you’ situation? How did you handle it? I would love to hear from you my dear readers. You guys are awesome.
Till I meet the next vampire….Bye Darlings!
